Police commissioner to face the public in online Q&A
Police Commissioner Julia Mulligan is set to host a live web question and answers session following the publication of her Police and Crime Plan.

The webchat, due to take place from 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 19th, will give residents of North Yorkshire the opportunity to probe the Commissioner on her plans for tackling crime across the County.
The Commissioner is holding the online Q&A to gather initial feedback to be evaluated to discover whether residents agree with the goals and objectives set for the county’s Chief Constable. These objectives centre around four main themes: Protecting vulnerable people, cutting crime and anti-social behaviour, focusing on prevention and early intervention and improving care for the victims of crime.
Commissioner Mulligan says she is taking a different approach to policing North Yorkshire when compared against other counties nationwide. In her approach, the Commissioner believes she is concentrating on 'quality and performance' instead of being fixated on statistics.
One statistic the Commissioner is keen to achieve however, is her aim of North Yorkshire becoming rated the safest county in England. The county is already rated one of the top three.
But, in spite of her stated aim, she is likely to face a degree of push-back from residents in the Selby area who have voiced concerns that policing in the town is losing out in favour of more affluent and populous areas such as York, Harrogate and Northallerton.
Budget within North Yorkshire have already been unkind to Selby with the closure of police custody cells at Selby Police Station. Since October 27th, arrests in the Selby area are no longer handled in town with officers now forced to ferry detainees more than 12 miles to be processed and interrogated in the services’s larger station in Fulford.
Commenting on the new Police and Crime Plan, Commissioner Mulligan said, “This plan has been developed after spending a lot of time finding out what the public want from their police locally. I hope the priorities reflect what people feel on the ground.
