9 in 10 kids leaving primary school will go to first choice secondary

New figures, released by North Yorkshire County Council, show around 89% of 11-year-olds across the area have been offered a place at their first choice of secondary school.

Whilst this figure represents a vast majority of local children being granted their first choice of school, it is slightly down on the number managed by North Yorkshire's schools 12 months ago. Then, 92% of children leaving primary school managed to get into the high school of their choice.

County Councillor Arthur Barker, North Yorkshire's executive member for schools, said, "This is good news that so many of our families yet again have been able to gain their first preference from their choice of schools.  As a local authority, we work with schools across the county to make sure all of them deliver the highest standards of education so that families who are not given first preferences will nevertheless be able to send their children to good schools."
