Meet the candidates: Lib Dem, Nicola Turner

The Liberal Democrat candidate for Selby & Ainsty is Nicola Turner. 

Nicola was born in East Yorkshire and spent her early years in the constituency, attending the primary school in South Milford.   After secondary school she joined the family business and has since diversified into running a property management company.  She also runs a smallholding and has recently started a degree course.  She is married, with four grown-up children. 

In 2006 Nicola was elected to Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council in West Yorkshire, representing the Colne Valley ward.  She is now the leader of the Liberal Democrat group.   Her work in Kirklees has shown that she is a tenacious councillor, working hard for the people in her ward and in the city.  She has been prominent in saving some rural bus services in Kirklees, and has campaigned against the council’s inflexible policy on road gritting in bad weather.

Nicola has been a supporter of the Liberal Democrats for all her adult life, and feels very much in tune with Liberal Democrat principles.   She wants everyone in Selby & Ainsty, whatever their start in life, to be able to make a better life for themselves, their family, and the community.

She is anxious to give the people of Selby & Ainsty the opportunity to show their support for the Liberal Democrats.  The party now has a proven record of being able to form a strong and stable coalition government, bringing hope and prosperity to Britain.  She fully supports the view that only the Liberal Democrats can deliver a stable coalition in the hung parliament that looks like the inevitable outcome of the 7th May election, and that neither the Conservative nor the Labour parties have been totally honest about what they would do then.
