Police ponder potential links following weekend of Sherburn thefts
Police investigating multiple thefts in Sherburn at the weekend are now trying to determine whether the incidents could be linked.
Sherburn and South Milford
Occupants of eight separate tents pitched near Squires Café Bar awoke early on Saturday morning to find their belongings had been taken as they slept.
The campers, who had been attending a motorbike rally in the town, found mobile phones, wallets, cash and a watch were amongst the items taken.
Just a few hours later a similar range of goods were stolen when a football club changing room whilst the team was out on the pitch.
This incident occurred between 2:25 and 3:40 pm that afternoon from the home team's changing rooms at the White Rose Sports Club on Tadcaster Road.
Just as in the case of the thefts overnight, wallets, mobile phones and cash were targeted by the perpetrators.
Owing to the similar nature of both crimes, investigating officers are probing the possibility that both thefts could be connected. They are appealing to anyone who saw any suspicious people or activity in the vicinity of either crime on Saturday to contact them as a matter of urgency.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can pass information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
