Death of man found in Selby Dam treated as unexplained
A town centre public space has been cordoned off for much of the day following the grim discovery of a man’s body this morning.

The discovery was made by a member of the public at around 9:30 this morning. Scott Road Community Park and a large area of the Abbey Walk retail park have remained inaccessible since.
Police removed the body from Selby Dam early this afternoon. His death is currently been treated by police as unexplained whilst detectives piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
The deceased is believed to be a local man, aged in his twenties. At the time of his death he was wearing a white top, maroon hoodie and trousers.
The man’s family have not yet been informed of his death.
Detective Inspector Andrea Kell, leading the investigation, said, “I need to speak to anyone who has seen the man in the Selby area during the evening of Saturday, 17 August 2013, so that I can establish his movements prior to the discovery of his body.”
