Selby area film studio plans green lit
Former RAF base set for starring role as home to Yorkshire Film Studios.

A Selby area airfield is set to be transformed into a major film-making studio after plans were approved by district planners.
The freshly approved plans give Screen Yorkshire the right to convert hangars at the former RAF Church Fenton airbase for use as a Yorkshire Film Studio for an initial period of five years.
Confirming the move, a statement by Selby District Council said, 'We are delighted to announce that a planning application for a change of use has been granted to use land and buildings at the former RAF base at Church Fenton for commercial film making and ancillary uses.'
It hoped that the new studio will establish Yorkshire and the Selby area on the British film and TV making map. Screen Yorkshire will now have a permanent home within the district, delivering a significant boost to the region’s film and TV infrastructure. This, the council says, will give Yorkshire a competitive edge to compete with the top production centres around the UK.
The Leader of the Council, Cllr Mark Crane said, “The approval of the film studio at Church Fenton will bring many financial benefits to the district as well as the creation of many jobs. This is an exciting time for the district and for our residents.”
