Wheely big plans for Selby's own 'eye' attraction
Plans to bring a 'London Eye' style big-wheel attraction to Selby have been submitted for approval by district planners.

Dubbed the 'Selby Eye', the ambitious project would see a tubular steel tourist wheel installed on Ousegate's currently vacant Bridge Wharf.
Taking a prominent position on the southern banks of the River Ouse, the 55m wheel would stand alongside Westmill Foods and Selby Abbey as one of the three tallest structures on the town's skyline for a period of one year, should plans be given the green light.
According to the proposed operators, Italian leisure giant 'Prendere in Giro', visitors to the attraction would pay £6.50 for a 20 minute ride in one of the wheel's 42 'observation pods'.
From the top, a guided audio tour would point out landmarks such as Brayton Barff, Hambleton Hough and the towers of Eggborough, Drax and Ferrybridge power stations. On clear days visitors could be able to see as far as York Minster.
Director of attractions Pasquale d'Pesce told The Selebian, "This will be a unique experience for Selby. No other town of its size will have its own eye and we are very much looking forward to coming to town."
If approved, the Selby Eye would be the first tourist wheel to be built in North Yorkshire since a similar attraction in York was dismantled in September 2013.
