Sore eyes as Saharan dust sparks air pollution warning
Elderly people in our area and those with existing health problems have been warned against strenuous activity as air pollution reaches harmful levels.

Forecasters at the DEFRA say levels of pollution are likely to become 'high' in many northern and eastern areas of England over the next 24 hours. This, they say, caused by a combination of pollutants trapped near the ground or from continental Europe combines with a small amount of dust blown in from the Sahara.
During periods of 'high' pollution anyone with lung or heart problems are advised to reduce strenuous physical exertion, particularly outdoors, and particularly if they are experiencing symptoms. People with asthma may find they need to use their reliever inhaler more often.
Healthy people may also find themselves suffering with a tickly cough or sore eyes as a result of the current change in air quality.
Air pollution levels are forecast to return to normal levels from tomorrow.
