Prosecution for man who built house without permission

Selby District Council has successfully prosecuted a Selby resident for breach of a planning control enforcement notice.

Derek Arnold of Station Road, Foggathorpe was issued with an Enforcement Notice after converting, a building at Blackwood Pig Farm, North Duffield for use as a dwelling house without planning permission.

Mr Arnold was prosecuted under Section 179 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and was found guilty following a trial at York Magistrates Court on 7 September 2016.

He was given a fine of £3,500 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £120.00 and the Council's costs in bringing the prosecution.

The Council investigates all reported alleged breaches of planning control. We strongly advise that anyone considering development seeks the necessary permission for planning.
