Charity helping Selby residents keep warm and avoid 'fuel poverty'

As energy bills continue to defy the record low oil and gas prices a regional charity is expanding a fuel poverty fighting scheme to Selby residents.

The practical solution offered by Groundwork North, East & West Yorkshire's Green Doctors team involves a free home energy visit. The friendly team offer one-to-one advice and install simple energy saving measures free of charge to help households use less energy, keep warm and save money.

Katrine Bay Madsen, Green Doctor Manager at Groundwork, is pleased to be able to expand the service to help Selby residents, “by helping you to switch suppliers, offering advice on managing fuel debt and changing how you use your heating systems we can save you money immediately and for the future. Installing energy saving measures such as draught excluders and pipe lagging stops energy waste and saves you more money whilst keeping you warm. In one visit we usually save our service users about £200-£300. 

“We have worked in Leeds for over eight years and are delighted to expand to Selby this year. Funding from Public Health, North Yorkshire County Council and the British Gas Energy Trust has enabled us to offer our service for free for eligible households.”
