Work starts on Selby's £5 million 'Leisure Village'

Ski simulator and BMXing coming to Scott Road.

Building work has got underway on the site of what is to become Selby's £5 million new 'Leisure Village'.

Scheduled for a 2016 opening, the new family-oriented leisure facility is set to bring a host of exciting activities to the site adjacent to the Selby Leisure Centre on Scott Road.

Amongst the activities planned include ten pin bowling, an adventure climbing facility, adventure play zone, aerial trekking ropes and an indoor ski simulator. Facilities will also include an indoor skate and BMX park.

Cllr Dave Peart (Con, SDC Camblesforth & Carlton) is Selby District Council's executive member for Housing, Leisure, Health and Culture, he said, “This is the first step on the road to providing a significant boost to family facilities in the district,” he explained.  “It will be a huge draw, bringing visitors into Selby - which then has the positive knock–on effect of providing a substantial boost to the wider business community.

“This supports our long-term vision for the Selby district which includes making Selby a great place to enjoy a healthy and happy life and our renewed focus on strengthening the local economy.”

The £5 million investment of the centre will also include a café/restaurant.  It will be run by WLCT, who are the Council’s leisure providers.
