Residents of a Selby area village have been kicking up a stink after tonnes of rotting waste was dumped at a former farm.

Environmental Health officers have been brought in to investigate after flytippers targeted the old Middlebrook Mushrooms site near Gateforth and Thorpe Willoughby.

While it is not yet clear who is responsible for the illegal dumping, Selby District Council confirmed to TheSelebian that efforts were ongoing to trace and potentially take action against the perpetrators.

A Council spokesperson said, “We received notification of this fly tipping last week and have been in discussions with the private land owner about getting it cleared and ensuring that the site is secure.

“We are conducting an investigation in to the waste dumping and will prosecute where evidence is found. If anyone has any information that may help us with the investigation please contact the council directly.”
