Chimney collapse shuts busy Selby road to rush hour traffic

A busy route though Selby was closed off overnight following concerns that a building had become unsafe.

The A19 was closed off to traffic at the junction of Union Lane and Brook Street after a section of chimney stack from a nearby residential property came tumbling down into the highway.
The closure caused problems for commuters at the height of the morning rush hour this morning as traffic was forced to find alternative routes through town.
The road remains closed at this time due to concerns over the potentially dangerous state of what remains of the chimney.
Whilst access to Union Lane is currently blocked, access is possible to nearby Armoury Road.
