Labour candidate for Selby and Ainsty announced ahead of poll

The Labour Party has announced its candidate for the Selby and Ainsty seat at the General Election.

David Bowgett, a Tadcaster town councillor who grew up in Barlby and Copmanthorpe, is set to contest the seat on behalf of the party in the poll on June 8th. Cllr Bowgett's name will appear on the ballot alongside Liberal Democrat Callum Delhoy and incumbent Conservative, Nigel Adams. 

Cllr. Bowgett, 31, attended Tadcaster Grammar School and went on to study at the University of Lincoln. He works as a freelance animator and film-maker, and has lived in Tadcaster since 2011.

"In my role as a councillor I have seen first-hand the harsh effects that the Conservative government’s austerity policies have had on the area, with increasingly strained volunteer organizations being forced to take up the mantle of caring for the most vulnerable in society, which is something that would be my top priority to address should I be elected as MP. Food bank usage in the Selby area was also up by almost a third over the past year, further demonstrating that despite the Conservative Party’s repeated boasts about employment figures in this country, they have done absolutely nothing to improve the standard of living since coming to power."

Those wishing to stand in the election have until 4 pm today to register with the returning officer at Selby District Council. A full list of candidates will be published by The Selebian, once it is available.
