Fourth annual jobs fair looks to fill 434 new roles
As many 434 new jobs could be filled by jobseekers attending Selby’s fourth annual jobs fair.

Upto 1,000 people are expected to venture to the event, being held at tomorrow at Selby College, where representatives from more than 40 employers will be looking to hire.
Amongst those looking to fill positions will are Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust. They are on the lookout for staff ahead of the opening of their replacement Abbey Leisure Centre, due early in the new year.
Also hiring are insurance giants Hiscox, recruiting for is new operation in York and Utima, a hi-tech firm whose factory is based in Sherburn.
More than 50 apprenticeships are also on offer for those looking to learn as they work their way into a new career.
The event is being staged by Nigel Adams MP (Con, Selby & Ainsty), in association with Selby College and with the help of the local Job Centre. The MP describes the event as being part of his ongoing commitment to driving economic growth across the constituency.
Unemployment in the Selby District has seen a steady decline of around 50% since it peaked at the height of the global financial meltdown of 2009. Today, the total number of people out of work and claiming unemployment in the district stands at 837 or 1.6% of the population.
The jobs fair takes place between 09:30 and 15:00 tomorrow inside the Sports Hall at Selby College. Buses running between Park Street and the College are running throughout the day, costing £1.
