Police to clamp down on 'irresponsible' Selby off-road bikers

In response to local concerns, over a period of several weekends during March and April, officers have spent time patrolling Darrington Quarry at Kirk Smeaton and an area known as 'the Dales' in Brotherton, due to increased reports of off-road bikes being used anti-socially.

North Yorkshire Police officers worked alongside West Yorkshire Police’s off-road bike unit, and over the course of several ‘weekends of action’ a number of bikers were stopped, spoken to and dealt with appropriately.

PCSO Laura Simpson, from North Yorkshire Police, said: “Both of these locations are privately-owned and no one has permission to access these sites and use them for off-road biking.

“We are working closely with the land owners and will continue to monitor activity there. Those who continue to ignore the restriction can expect to be dealt with robustly, which may ultimately result in the seizure of their bike.”
