Council top brass pitch Olympic Park investment scheme in London
Selby District Council and the developers of the Olympia Park site at Barlby have this week been promoting the area to potential foreign investors at a high profile event in London.

The event, held at the House of Lords, was facilitated by Leeds and Partners, an organisation responsible for attracting inward investment, supporting trade, promoting tourism, and raising the profile of the Leeds City Region, of which Selby is a part.
The Chief Executive of Selby District Council Mary Weastell attended the event to support Richard Cooper the Director of Three Swans Property Management who is the developer of the Olympia Park scheme. This major development is set to deliver over 800 new homes and 270,000 square metres of new business space. Other key developments were also on the agenda, such as the Sherburn 2 site which will deliver over 116,000 square metres of new business space over an 85 acre site. Both of these flagship schemes have the potential to support many hundreds of new jobs and opportunities.
The aim of the event was to showcase potential opportunities for new investment with Chinese investors, keen to look at UK developments.
The Selby district is uniquely placed within the Leeds City Region because of its road and rail connectivity, its links with key new investment sectors such as the energy business and the availability and affordability of new business space coming onto the market to support new investment.
Richard Cooper, Three Swans Property Management Director, is behind the Olympia Park site. He explained, "This has been an ideal opportunity to seek to bring in investment to maximise the potential of the Olympia Park site and another example of the new emphasis on a public-private partnership to support growth in the Selby district. Olympia Park is a key development site to deliver new homes and business space; this will support new investment and jobs in the Selby district with benefits far beyond the immediate area."
Leader of the Council, Cllr Mark Crane, said, "We've got a real focus now on helping to drive growth and investment to support new jobs and the homes we need in our district. We've now got in place our Core Strategy which sets out business and housing growth needs between now and 2027, giving some certainty to new investors about the opportunities available here in our district.
"We've also been working closely with our businesses, through events such as the business breakfast summits, to support new investment."
