A man, killed when he was hit by a car whilst crossing the A64 at Bilbrough has been named by the police.

Kevin Younger, 51, died when he was hit by a silver Hyundai i10 on the eastbound carriageway of the A64 at around 10.30pm on Monday evening.

Kevin's brother and sister, Tony Younger and Marie Burgess, have paid tribute to their brother in a statement issued through the police.

Tony said, “Myself and Marie are devastated at the tragic death of our dearly loved brother Kevin. We would like to offer our sympathy to the driver involved in the accident. We would also like to thank our family liaison officer, family and friends for their continuous support.

“We ask for the media to respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

Enquiries into the fatal collision are continuing at this time with anyone who witnessed the incident urged to contact the police with information.
