Eggborough plant's glass recycling praised by Yorkshire MEP
A Yorkshire MEP has praised an Eggborough glass manufacturer for its environmentally friendly efforts to transform recycled glass into new.

Timothy Kirkhope, MEP for Yorkshire, saw recycled glass transformed into fresh flat panes, ready for construction, when he visited Saint-Gobain this week.
The Tory MEP saw how the glass manufacturing process works and learnt how the the company is increasing the amount of recycled glass it uses when it makes new products. It was also highlighted how the industry is using innovation to improve sustainability through new, more insulation-efficient products.
During his visit the MEP and plant managers discussed the impact of European emission regulations and UK energy policy on the company. The group also discussed how the glass manufacturing industry is responding to rising energy and environment costs.
Timothy Kirkhope MEP said, “Yorkshire is the largest region in the country for glass manufacturing and I was delighted to meet with Saint-Gobain Glass and their staff to learn more about this vital industry, their plans for the future and the apprenticeships they provide”.
Jenni Staves, Environmental Manager at British Glass, the industry’s trade association, who organised the visit, added, “We welcomed an opportunity to show Timothy Kirkhope MEP the manufacturing process first hand and discuss with him how Europe is affecting our industry at the moment, particularly in relation to high energy costs”.
