Asbestos discovery shuts primary school in Brayton
A Selby area school is to remain closed throughout today after builders caused damage to 'asbestos containing materials'.
Selby
Brayton Primary School was closed as a precautionary measure whilst officers from North Yorkshire County Council determine what, if any, risk to children and staff remains.
News of the closure was broken to parents via SMS message, with some discovering that the school would be closed on social media.
Commenting via facebook, one parent said, "I think it is a safety issue and I am pleased they are addressing the issue, my son is so pleased he has a couple of extra days of school!! But as a working mum it is a nightmare getting a text at 3 pm on Sunday saying the school will be closed mon, unfortunately I am unable to take time off short notice, so sorting child care at such short notice is a nightmare!"
Parents worried about the school's discovery are invited to attend a special meeting being held at 6:30pm tonight at Brayton High School.
