CCTV installed in bid to curb community centre 'manace youths'

CCTV cameras are being around Selby Community Centre in a bid to curb bad behaviour by local youths.

A plague of anti-social behaviour over the last year has led to some local groups

A succession of incidents, including one in which a fire was set in the building's stairwell whilst a group were using an upstairs room, have led to some groups choosing to relocate away from the centre over recent times.

New cameras are being placed in order to deter those who have been damaging municipal property and intimidating the centre's user from doing so in the future.

Selby Police's Sergeant Jackie Booth told of how she believes the new cameras will help in the fight against anti-social behaviour, "The CCTV will provide police officers with further opportunities to identify offenders and those who have been found committing offences will be dealt with within the due process of the criminal justice system.
