Local kids taught dangers of railways
Children at a Selby area primary school have been taught of the dangers of the railways thanks to a visit by representatives of a railway contractors.

As part of its commitment to promoting rail safety to young children, representatives from VolkerRail spent a day at Chapel Haddlesey C.E. Primary School.
The visit took place on Monday, November 10th when Stuart Webster-Spriggs, HSQE director, Chris Leek, head of quality and environment, and Calvin Robertson, environmental advisor dropped by to promote level crossing and overhead line safety to pupils.
The team used their ‘Rail Life’ programme to show the children what to do when in the vicinity of the railway and provided each child with a high visibility safety vest to wear on their walk to and from school, through the impending darkness of the winter months.
The firm also arranged for Network Rail’s safety truck to attend, which gave the children the opportunity to learn more about electrical safety on the railway.
