Lost swan drops in on Selby Police Station for directions to water
Officers at Selby Police station were surprised by an unusual visitor on bank holiday Monday after a lost swan turned up outside their station, in need of directions.

The swan was found wondering along Portholme Road close to traffic on Monday, before being walked to the safety of the grass outside of Selby Police Station. Local wildlife rescue charity, the Yorkshire Swan Rescue, were contacted and immediately responded to the call for help.
Dan Sidley, founder of the charity based at Barlow Nature Reserve said, “We were contacted on the morning of the bank holiday to alert us to a wondering swan outside the Police station in Selby. Obviously as the animal was on the road, our first priority was to ensure it was out of harms way and so to avoid any accidents between vehicles too.
“We were soon on the scene and we were able to quickly rescue the bird. Foruntately, he had no injuries to his legs or body. I suspect the swan was flying overhead and mistook the wet road for the nearby Canal and landed with a bit of a thud.”
Mr Sidley released the swan back on to the canal later that day after identification rings on its legs showed it had hatched there last year.
