Party launch for Selby Greens
There is a new challenge to the traditional political parties with the launch this month of Selby Green Party.
Politics & local government
It is holding its first ever meeting on Monday 13th October and throwing open the doors to anyone in Selby with an interest in Green issues.
Founder member Caroline Littler said “Many people are desperate for an alternative to the three main parties and now Selby has one! We will be campaigning against austerity, public sector cuts and especially fracking. This damaging practice is already happening in nearby East Riding and fracking companies have been given licenses to frack in this area. The Greens are the only party that opposes fracking and we will be pushing to make Selby a frack-free town."
The Green Party’s key policies include challenging austerity and benefit cuts such as the bedroom tax; providing affordable housing; protecting the NHS and local services; and investing nationally and locally to tackle high energy bills and low incomes.
The first Selby Green Party meeting is at Selby Community Centre on Scott Road, at 7.30pm on Monday 13th October. Come down for a discussion over tea or coffee to share your views and suggest local issues for future campaigns.
