Power cable theft puts Eggborough homes in the dark
Residents in Eggborough were plunged into darkness last night after thieves stole the cables supplying their homes with electricity.

The power was cut at around 9:30pm yesterday evening when around 300 metres of 440 volt overhead supply cable was taken from Station Row Lane, close to the Jolly Miller pub.
Following the theft, police now want to see three persons who were seen to run away from the scene of the incident towards the Jolly Miller and the main Selby Road.
It is believed that the thieves used a vehicle – possibly a van – to transport the stolen cable after fresh tyre tracks were found in a field close to the scene.
Thefts of electricity cables have become increasingly common in recent times due the high scrap value carried by the metals from which the cables are made. Copper cable can currently by worth in excess of £4,000 per tonne where it can be traded.
Officers from Selby Police are now appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident to come forward. Residents are also urged to remain vigilant and report all suspicious activity to the police as soon as possible.
