Firefighters were called to the Oxton Lane farm building at around 5:00pm yesterday evening, after reports that the blaze could be seen from the nearby A64. They remained onsite for much of the night as they brought the fire under control.
Around 100 tonnes of hay were stored in the steel framed barn which measures approximately 20 by 10 meters.
Fire Investigation Officers and the Police are still investigating the blaze, but have indicated that arson is the likely cause.
