Meet the candidates: The Conservatives' Nigel Adams
Selby & Ainsty Parliamentary Election
With polling day approaching I want to thank local residents for the terrific response I’ve received during the election campaign and for the many messages of support.
Since 2010, we have been working to a plan to turn Britain around and that plan is working and it’s working for Selby. Over the last five years we have seen Labour’s deficit halved and we now have one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
Alongside our area’s growing businesses I have worked hard to ensure that unemployment here is down by almost 60% since the last election, further proof that our economic plan is working for Selebians. We have also cut income tax for 30,000 Selby residents and taken 4,150 of the lowest paid local people out of tax altogether.
We have a fantastic new hospital with more NHS nurses and doctors.
Now more than ever Selby and Britain needs strong and competent leadership, not chaos and instability under Labour propped up by the SNP.
For the last five years I have worked hard for Selby instigating Jobs Fairs, speaking up for a fairer deal for our area including pushing the council into repairing the bypass and helping secure high profile events like the Olympic Torch relay and the Tour de Yorkshire, which I am sure thousands of people will enjoy this weekend.
When first elected I was the first ever MP for Selby to be from Selby, so having grown up here and having lived for almost forty years in this constituency, I would like to build on the last five years work I’ve put in to continue making a real difference for my local community.
