Vans targeted in latest overnight thefts

Two vans have become the latest targets for vehicle thieves operating in the Selby area.

The vehicles, parked on Barlby Road and nearby George Street, were broken into overnight with thieves making off with a number of tools.

Police say the latest thefts mark the eight time this month that vehicles have been targetted in this way.

In the majority of cases, the owners had left valuables inside the vehicle which were stolen. These range from expensive tools of their trade, sat-navs to gift vouchers.

A spokesperson for the force said, "Our advice to every vehicle owner is to always remove valuables at night, whether it’s your sat-nav, shopping, small change, or tools that you use to make a living.

"Always make the effort to remove them, particularly if you don’t store your vehicle in a secure garage overnight."
