Poll cards issued to Selby voters ahead of EU vote

Selby District Council has begun sending out poll cards ahead of next month's EU referendum vote.

These will go to people registered to vote in the district.  If you are already on the electoral roll – for example if you received a poll card for the recent Police and Crime Commissioner election – then you do not need to re-register to take part in the EU vote.

As with other polls, you can vote in person at a polling station or register for a postal or proxy vote.  Details of how to do this can be found here. 

Importantly, however, it is essential that the details submitted on postal votes match details provided when the application for a postal vote was submitted.  A small number of postal votes were rejected during the election process at the recent Police and Crime Commissioner because signatures or dates of birth did not match the records held on our system for those electors.  Letters are going out to all those affected to ensure that their votes can be counted in future.

Selby District Council has responsibility for running the EU referendum election and local count in its own area.  The results will be fed into a regional count centre for Yorkshire, which will be in Leeds, and then be submitted as part of the nationwide outcome.

Counting Officer and Selby District Council Chief Executive, Mary Weastell, explained, “Selby District Council is administering the election in our own local area, so look out for information about polling from us.  Polling cards for those already registered are going out now, but if you’re not yet registered to vote you have until Tuesday 7 June to do so.  There is a lot of help and advice available on the Council’s website”.
