Worker killed in Sherburn supermarket depot

A worker at a supermarket distribution centre in Sherburn has been killed in a collision with a loading vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the Wincanton depot on Sherburn Enterpirse Park at around 8:30 this morning after a male employee was involved in a collision with a tractor-type vehicle - know as a shunter. The collision happened in the loading area of the premises.

The victim, a Wakefield man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed of the tragedy.

The Wincanton depot operates as a major distribution centre for Sainsbury's supermarkets and is a major employer in the area.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident and say they are not in a position to name the deceased at this time.
