Progress on construction for new leisure village

Work is continuing on the construction of the new Selby leisure village as the external envelope of the building nears completion.

Once opened the new family orientated attraction on Scott Road is expected to draw significant numbers of visitors into the town from across the surrounding district.

Leisure Development partner Alliance Leisure are delivering this project on behalf of the council with construction partner ISG undertaking the role of principal contractor. The £5 million centre will be run by Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, who are the Council’s leisure provider.

The next phase of the project will see the internal fitting out of the development begin. Once completed residents will be able to enjoy six lane ten pin bowling, an adventure climbing facility with themed climbing panels up to 8 metres high, an adventure play zone with a dedicated area for babies and toddlers, aerial trekking ropes set above the indoor skate and BMX park and two indoor ski simulators. There will also be an outdoor skate park which has been designed following consultation with and input from local skate park users.

Selby District Council’s Executive member with responsibility for Housing, Leisure, Health and Culture, Cllr Dave Peart, said, “At this stage in the project we can see the building really take shape and start to really visualise how the space will be used for all these activities.

“This development is a key part of our long-term vision for the district which includes making Selby a great place to enjoy a healthy and happy life and our renewed focus on strengthening the local economy.”

With the outer structure nearing completion, internally the building is taking shape with the partition walls completed. In the New Year work will begin on the internal fit out, starting with the aerial trekking ropes followed by the ski simulators. Outside the building the drainage, footpaths and soft landscaping have been completed.
