Finger lickin' chicken on menu as KFC plans Selby drive-thru

The fast-food giant's hopes for a Selby outlet were revealed as plans for a brand new commercial development were submitted for approval by district planners.

Comprising a Lidl supermarket, a Marston's pub and a 76-cover fast food restaurant by the afore mentioned popcorn-chicken pedlar, the development would sit between Staynor Hall and the bypass on the southern edge of Selby. The land, which sits on Selby's southernmost gateway, has been earmarked for commercial use since 2005 when plans were approved for a 1200-home housing development that would later become the Staynor Hall estate.

But whilst some in the town may be looking forward to the prospect of sharing a Family Bucket (or two), others have highlighted flaws in the project and have called of the scheme to be rejected.

One objector, who submitted comments to the ongoing planning consultation said, "Bawtry Road roundabout is often congested with traffic leaving/entering Selby as well as traffic accessing the business park and traffic leaving/entering the animal auctions. Access in/out of the junctions to Staynor Hall onto to or from Bawtry Road is often at a standstill also causing congestion further up.

"Higher amounts of traffic and congestion will cause higher amounts of air pollution and noise pollution to residents of Ash Way [and] Bawtry Road."

Currently out for public consultation, a final decision on the scheme is expected to be made by district planning committee members in around May or June. The late determination date comes despite erroneous reports by one local blogger that the developers have already been granted planning permission for their scheme as a drive-thru only outlet.
