Police were called to a late night incident in Selby after a man fell into the river near Selby's Old Toll Bridge.

Police confirmed they were called to a 'concern for safety' report at around 2.30am, in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident involved an 18-year-old man who had fallen into the river from the bankside. He managed to get out of the waste-deep water by himself and was met by officers at 2.40am.

After ensuring he was safe and well, officers took the individual home.

UPDATE: An earlier version of this story contained details of an incident where an injured man was seen with a 'heavily bleeding' foot in the vicinity. North Yorkshire Police have now been back to us having realised that two very separate incidents had occurred.
