Council looks to appoint 'independent persons' to deal with councillor complaints

schedule

Think you've got what it takes to keep Selby's local politicians on the straight and narrow?

Selby District Council is seeking to recruit two volunteers who will help promote and maintain high standards of conduct by district, town and parish councillors.

The posts are being created as the council looks to recruit 'independent persons' to assist the authority's monitoring officer when dealing with complaints about councillors and co-opted members.

They will be asked to offer advice and guidance and contribute to the council’s duty to promote high standards of behaviour. One position is for a 5-year term and the other for 3 years.

The posts are unpaid, but the council says it will cover travel costs and subsistence expenses will be paid in 'appropriate cases'.

Further details can be found on the council's website. Letters of application should be submitted by Friday, 7th July.
