The body responsible for scrutinising appointments to the House of Lords has confirmed that it refused to support eight nominations in Boris Johnson's resignation honours list.
Johnson's list, which had been widely expected to name Selby's out-going MP in line for a life-long seat in the Lords, was published on Friday - but with no peerages awarded to sitting MPs.
Nigel Adams, a key ally of the embattled former Prime Minister, quit his role 'with immediate effect' just hours after the publication of the list.
Speaking to broadcaster Sky News, a spokesperson for the The House of Lords Appointments Commission (Holac) said:
"All nominations made by Mr Johnson were received and processed by Holac. Eight nominees were not supported by the commission.
"The commission is advisory to the prime minister and is not involved in the appointment processes after providing advice.
"The commission does not comment on individuals."
