A woman has been killed and five others have been taken to hospital after two cars collided head-on on New Year's Eve.
Both cars, a black Audi and a black Kia, were traveling in opposite directions on the A19 near Escrick when they came into collision at around 2pm.
The deceased woman had been a passenger in one of the cars involved in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The male driver of the vehicle was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries.
Four occupants of the other car were taken to hospital with less serious injuries.
The road was closed into the evening to allow traffic collision investigators to examine the scene.
Those traveling between Selby and York were diverted via Stillingfleet and Naburn where a thick fog made for dangerous driving conditions.
Any witnesses to the collision that have not already spoken to the police are asked to call 101 and pass information for incident 12190238470.
